‘It was good’… Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg says 22-year-old Tottenham player really impressed him last night

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has praised Brennan Johnson after Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Brentford on Wednesday evening.

The duo were called upon at halftime last night as Tottenham headed into the break 1-0 down after a lacklustre first-half display.

Hojbjerg and Johnson replaced Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur, with Ange Postecoglou unimpressed at the midway point.

The changes inspired Spurs to a blistering start to the second half as they netted three goals in 11 minutes.

And after a difficult run of form for the 22-year-old, Hojbjerg has praised Johnson after the impact he made from the bench last night.

Speaking to , Hojbjerg explained why he’s ready to stay and fight for his place at Spurs.

And after he and Johnson made an impact from the bench last night, he praised the former Nottingham Forest man.

“I definitely feel I can help the team,” Hojbjerg said. “Again, I showed again that I’m ready and of course – like everyone – I want to start every game. There’s no secret in that.

“We’re all ambitious but I think the important thing is to stay ambitious on behalf of the team and this is the main thing, that we can all keep our ambitions from the team’s perspective. It doesn’t matter whoever it is, we have to perform for the team.

“[The second half] was good, the team really stepped up second half and I think I helped the team well, Brennan helped the team well so I think it was good.”

Johnson would have been disappointed to drop to the bench last night, despite a tough run of form of late.

The winger has shown glimpses of what he can offer in a Postecoglou side but is yet to find his best form in a Spurs shirt.

Last night’s goal should provide a much-needed boost in confidence though and he’ll be hoping to be back in the starting XI at Everton on Saturday.
