‘It was close’: Stuttgart sporting director sheds light on Leeds United’s bid for Nicolas Gonzalez

VFB Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat has shed some light on Leeds’ reported interest in attacking star, Nicolas Gonzalez.

The Whites were linked with a move for the 15-goal star, with the claiming Marcelo Bielsa had identified the 23-year-old as a potential summer signing.

The Argentinian has been a standout performer for the German outfit this season and his form has caught the attention of a number of clubs, including fellow PL side, Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, despite the interest, Mislintat says he doesn’t expect any deal to be concluded between Stuttgart and Leeds for now. (Quotes from the )

“I don’t see a departure coming for now. We had a lot of rumours in the beginning. It was very serious with Leeds. But at no point it was really convincing for him or for us.”

It was that a bid in the region of £15m would have been enough for the Bundesliga side to consider a sale. However, with such an update, it appears any sort of interest may now be dead in the water in terms of the Yorkshire club at least.

While the deal might not be completely dead in the water, it is a bit of a blow for someone from within the club to be playing down a deal.

Gonzalez is clearly a talented player who might go on to bigger and better things. Indeed, a move to Leeds would have given him that platform to perform in the biggest league in world football.

Leeds will move on regardless, though. If they don’t land Gonzalez, you can trust that Bielsa has an extensive list of targets given how meticulous he is with his planning and preparation.
