‘It was a great experience’: Terry names one Aston Villa man he ‘learnt so much’ from

Former Aston Villa assistant John Terry has signalled out Dean Smith as the man he learnt the most from during his time with the Birmingham club.

Speaking to Sky Sports News , the ex-Premier League defender praised the Villa boss for the lessons Smith taught Terry during their time together on the coaching staff. The Chelsea legend departed the club at the end of last season to pursue new opportunities.

Terry had been viewed as a key member of the coaching staff at Villa as well as a coach who was crucial to improving many of the players on the training ground.

The likes of Jack Grealish and Frank Lampard have noted his impact on the pitch for the Villains.

And when asked who Terry learnt the most from, Smith was the answer the free-agent coach gave.

The former England defender said: “I learnt so much from Dean. It was a great experience for me and I love Aston Villa as a football club as well.

“I learnt so much, and I’m thankful for the opportunity I had there. But I think everyone knew when I went in there that I wanted to be a number one. And that’s very much at the forefront.”

With Villa facing off against Chelsea this weekend, it will be interesting to see which side of the fence Terry takes when his two former sides clash.
