It looks like Rangers face a transfer decision with Greg Docherty

on the future of Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty this week. The report suggests Rangers spent £650,000 to sign the player from Hamilton 18 months ago but after plenty of midfield recruitment, it is hard to see where he fits at Ibrox.

Hibs recruitment chief Graeme Mathie has reportedly watched him throughout the season. Paul Heckingbottom, the Hibernian boss, is even open to the idea of a loan move.

So what should Rangers do?

Docherty has been in fine form for loan club Shrewsbury Town this season. In 48 games for the League One club, he has scored 10 goals and set up a further 11. Double figures on both charts is no mean feat.

But having Docherty at the club and struggling for first-team football makes no sense. Either, given his talent, does selling him.

So perhaps the best option is to loan him out to Hibernian. It would give him more experience in the Scottish top-flight and he could even face rivals Celtic, potentially taking points off their Old Firm foes.

Loaning Docherty to Hibs could be the best option all around for Rangers and the player.
