Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was asked why Miguel Azeez and Tyreece John-Jules were recalled from their respective loan spells midway through the season.

John-Jules joined Blackpool on a season-long loan deal following Daniel Ballard’s success last season, but he was only given a little over 600 minutes of game time. Azeez, on the other hand, was sent to Portsmouth to work under Danny Cowley, but he didn’t play a lot either.

The Spaniard said, as per : “Miguel Azeez had Covid so he has not been involved at all. Tyreece John-Jules, we brought him back for different reasons.

“The loan spells and the things that we wanted to achieve with him weren’t happening, so we decided to call them back, sit down, think and now talk and discuss what the best plan is, going forward. Within the context we are in now as well, they can help with some numbers, which is good.”

John-Jules has been a really exciting talent at Arsenal for a while now, but he has been extremely unlucky. He suffered two terrible injuries while on loan at Doncaster Rovers last season, and he struggled for game time in the first half of this term at Blackpool.

Azeez is arguably an even bigger talent. The teenager is viewed by many at Arsenal as a future first-team star. He was even given an opportunity by Arteta in the Europa League last season, and it’s only a matter of time before he features for the first team again.

However, both players need some experience under their belt and loan moves away are the best way to achieve that.

Arsenal got it wrong with their choice of clubs for Azeez and John-Jules at the start of the season. They will be looking to correct that now and six months of regular football somewhere for the two youngsters could really change their fortunes.
