Istanbul hero Jerzy Dudek has a message for Liverpool star Adrian on Instagram
Jerzy Dudek has consoled Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian on Instagram after the Spaniard endured a torrid time in the second-leg Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, as The Reds were knocked out 4-2 on aggregate.
Despite dominating the match, Liverpool suffered a 3-2 defeat at Anfield as substitute Marcos Llorente proved to be the match winner – coming off the bench to score an extra-time brace, despite only netting three career goals beforehand.
Liverpool lost the first leg 1-0 but were expected to capitalise at Anfield, and took the game into extra time thanks to Gini Wijnaldum’s header. Robert Firmino made it 2-0 on the night in extra time.
However, Atleti came roaring back and Diego Simeone’s tactical nous worked. A woeful clearance by Adrian saw Atletico capitalise, playing in Llorente who finished into the far corner. Replays showed Adrian slipped when trying to make a save.
The away goal saw Atleti set to go through, and the tie was all but over when Llorente doubled his tally just before the extra-time break. With Liverpool chasing the game, Adrian allowed Alvaro Morata to pass the ball home at his near post.
A woeful display by Adrian with Alisson sidelined through injury, but Istanbul hero Dudek took to Instagram to console Adrian and indeed Liverpool supporters – while naming Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak as the man of the match.
