Islam Slimani may be an unpopular choice but he is potentially perfect for Jose Mourinho

Islam Slimani has emerged as a shock transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur this month. Spurs are looking to bring in a striking alternative after losing Harry Kane to a serious hamstring injury.

The Leicester City-owned striker is currently on loan at Monaco, where he has scored seven goals in 14 games. , Tottenham are hoping of getting that deal cancelled and bringing him to London until the end of the season.

It is not a deal that has Tottenham fans over-the-moon with excitement.

Slimani struggled to live up to expectation during his time at the King Power Stadium and the Algerian international is considered a flop by Foxes fans.

However, he does have all the traits to be a perfect Jose Mourinho striker. The Tottenham boss is clearly a fan. (how highly he rated the then Sporting Lisbon forward. Slimani was, at the time, on fire for his nation at the World Cup in Brazil.

“The striker, Slimani, I know well because he played in Portugal this season.

“He’s a very aggressive striker. He likes to score goals. He’s fast, as you saw with his goal, but at the same time he’s very strong in the air. Just solid all-round.”

Slimani certainly has the attributes of a Mourinho frontman. Big, strong, aggressive and more athletic than given credit for. His infamous Porto team contained the likes of Derlei, Benni McCarthy and Edgaras Jankauskas, all strikers who fit this bracket.

His star strikers at Chelsea were Didier Drogba and, in his second spell, Diego Costa. Again, similar players. Diego Milito was turned into an assassin by Mourinho at Inter Milan. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was his star at Old Trafford.

Mourinho loves a big, strong, central striker with the ability to do something out of the ordinary. Slimani is such a player. Perhaps he could be the perfect recruit for Tottenham.
