‘Is this a joke?’ – Aston Villa fans seem unimpressed with Ashley Williams rumours
Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Welsh defender Ashley Williams, .
Everton defender Williams is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer with three clubs interested.
Aston Villa are mulling over a move for the Wales international, while Championship-bound Huddersfield Town and MLS club DC United will scrap for his signature.
Williams is currently on loan with Stoke City in the Championship, where he has played 33 games in the league.
The Potters are in the bottom half of the table and Everton have shown no signs of renewing Williams’ contract when his loan expires.
Aston Villa’s current defensive options include three loanees (Kortney Hause, Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe) and two players with expiring contracts (Tommy Elphick and Mile Jedinak).
Williams could, therefore, be seen as a squad option for the Villans. But without knowing what division they will be playing in, surely Aston Villa’s decision will wait.
