Is Rhian Brewster ready for his Liverpool debut against Napoli?
Liverpool are currently in Italy, preparing for the Champions League clash with Napoli tonight. And Jurgen Klopp will be weighing up whether to give Rhian Brewster some minutes on the pitch.
Brewster has been heavily involved with the first-team off the pitch but is yet to make his debut. With Divock Origi out injured, he has been called into the squad for tonight’s game. Is it time to unleash Brewster and give him a first-team chance?
Proven in the youth team
Brewster has never played a game of senior football in his career. But the 19-year-old is a proven talent in youth team football. He has been regularly scoring goals for the U18s and the U23s despite several injury concerns.
Because he has never been out on loan, this is the only environment Brewster has been able to showcase his ability in. With two goals in four games for the U23s this season, it might be time for a promotion.
Fitness concerns?
There is one major concern regarding Brewster’s potential step-up to the first-team. As a result of some serious injuries at a young age, Brewster has not been fully fit for a while now.
The England U21 international was a major part of Klopp’s pre-season plans with the first-team. He was scoring goals for fun in the friendlies but struggled to cope with the intensity of pre-season.
If Brewster is struggling with pre-season, how will he fare playing first-team football now the Premier League season has kickstarted? Klopp might have reservations about rushing Brewster into the team because of this.

However, Origi’s injury has accelerated the need to get Brewster ready for first-team action. Klopp will want his young striker to share the burden with Roberto Firmino and allow Liverpool to rest the Brazilian star.
Klopp is a big fan of Brewster and he has included him in matchday squads, pre-season and first-team training. Now is the time to blood Brewster into the first-team with a debut off the bench against Napoli.
