Is reported interest from English club in Liverpool star Rhian Brewster a boost for Leeds?
The reported race for Liverpool teenager Rhian Brewster is hotting up after he showcased his talents in the enthralling 5-5 draw against Arsenal on Wednesday night – and one club’s interest in the striker could prove to be a boost for Leeds.
Crystal Palace are leading the race to land Brewster, 19, who made his second senior appearance against Arsenal. Roy Hodgson has eyed the England youth international to beef up The Eagles strike force.
But Palace are not the only side interested in Brewster. Indeed, German Bundesliga sides are showing interest in the striker while Championship sides Swansea City and Bristol City also fancy a chance on Brewster. The latter could be a boost for Leeds.
In the summer, Leeds landed Eddie Nketiah on loan from Arsenal on a season-long loan. He joined Leeds ahead of Bristol City and German clubs, with Ian Wright helping the England Under-21 international choose the best club for Nketiah’s progress.
But Nketiah has failed to make a Championship start for Leeds so far, being used as a substitute. Indeed, Nketiah has come off the bench to score three times for Leeds – while Patrick Bamford continues to start.
It has seen some reports claim that Arsenal will recall Nketiah in January, and loan him elsewhere – with Bristol City still keen, according to Bamford has a knock, and Nketiah could now make his first start on Saturday.
Nevertheless, Arsenal are sure to be disappointed that Nketiah has been made to wait until November to get his first start – if he does against QPR on Saturday. It may see them recall the striker in the winter window.
But with Bristol City now reportedly in the race to sign Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster, does The Robins’ interest in the latter suggest that they are giving up on pursuing a deal for Nketiah? Certainly, Leeds look likely to keep Nketiah.
Bristol City could sign Brewster, but even if they do not, their interest in the Liverpool forward suggests they are looking elsewhere than Nketiah – which is a huge transfer boost for Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa.
