Celtic fans may perhaps feel that they can start to make out a glimmer of light at the end of a very long tunnel with the news that Neil Lennon has left the club.
The Hoops have endured a miserable season. And Lennon’s departure is the first of many steps the club seemingly need to take before they are in a position to get back to the summit of Scottish football.
John Kennedy has been left in charge while the Bhoys search for Lennon’s successor. however, that Kennedy is unlikely to be handed the job permanently.
It may not be an easy job for Kennedy. But with Celtic unlikely to move up or down in the table, there may be scope for the interim boss to make some exciting changes to the squad ahead of next season.
Kennedy would arguably stake a stronger claim for the permanent job if he turned to a number of the younger players than if he oversaw a strong end to the campaign with the established first-team players.
And perhaps one youngster he should consider promoting is Luca Connell, who remains an intriguing figure at Parkhead.
It appeared to be a huge coup when Celtic signed Connell in 2019. Kennedy himself, lauded his talent following a pre-season clash with Rennes shortly after his arrival (via ).
However, almost two years on, the versatile midfielder is still awaiting the chance to make his first-team debut. He has actually only been on the bench twice this season.
So if he is fit, perhaps Kennedy should be the man to hand him his chance at some stage.
Connell can play in central midfield or at left-back. So he would arguably be a good player to include on the bench once again.
And from there, it would not hurt to give him an opportunity at some point before the campaign concludes.
If Connell realises his potential, he could be a key player for Celtic in the coming years. So Kennedy should consider giving him the platform to finally get his Parkhead career up and running.
