Is Che Adams starting to feel the pressure at Southampton?

Southampton paid £15million () in the summer to sign attacker Che Adams from Birmingham City and is yet to fully hit the ground running.

The centre-forward has played seven games across all competitions this term for the Saints, but is yet to score his first goal and has just one assist so far.

He’s started in all six Premier League games for Ralph Hasnehuttl’s team and is still waiting to score in the top-flight.

The English striker was given a full 90 minutes on Tuesday night for the huge Carabao Cup fixture away to rivals Portsmouth, which they ended up winning 4-0 in convincing fashion.

But Adams once again didn’t enjoy the best of games and failed to get on the scoresheet, with attacking teammate Danny Ings stealing the show with his two goals.

Adams has spent most of his career so far in the Championship and it’s a big step up to try make it in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old appears to be struggling with his sizeable price tag and the pressure will continue to mount until he scores his first goal.

It’s almost appeared like he’s been trying too hard to impress for the Saints, but he should take confidence from Hasenhuttl continuing to play him and also the fact he scored 22 league goals for Birmingham last season in the Championship.

Adams needs to try simplify his game and take more care in possession, starting away to Tottenham in the league.

He may find himself out of the XI soon based on the competition for places, but it’s too early to write his Southampton career off and he just needs a goal to boost his confidence.
