Is a Premier League move likely for Chelsea and Manchester United target Hakan Calhanoglu?
from Turkey claim that Chelsea have launched a bid for Manchester United target Hakan Calhanoglu, Bayer Leverkusen’s exciting attacking midfielder. The 22-year-old, who usually plays in a central role, has scored five goals in 20 games so far this campaign and already has eight goals in 26 caps on the international scene since being given his debut at just 19-years-old. Now, it seems that a battle between two of the Premier League’s top clubs could be about to start as they fight for his services.
What would he bring to the Premier League?
Pace, trickery and deadly free-kicks. An excellent dribbler, Calhanoglu is certainly not afraid to take on his man and can tear defences apart almost single handedly. He’s also developed a reputation as one of the best set piece takers in Europe with his countless goals from free-kicks. The only doubt over the Turk will be whether he will be able to adapt the physical and demanding style of the Premier League. His experience in the Bundesliga should serve him well and he has done well at the top level, but he may need patience to reach his best.
Is a move likely?
Seems so, given that he has spoken of how hard it would be to turn down a big club like Manchester United. Barcelona are also said to be hovering around and may tempt him to choose Spain instead of England, but the wealth of the Premier League and the top coaches on offer may be persuasive factors.
Verdict
7/10 – Leverkusen may be unlikely to allow him to leave mid-season after their impressive Champions League progress at the expense of Tottenham, but he may force a move in order to further his career with either of the two Premier League clubs far more likely to be pushing for titles than at his current club in Germany.
