International performances surely put Ben Davies ahead of Danny Rose for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur defenders Ben Davies and Danny Rose are still battling it out for the starting left-back spot.

Spurs will be hoping to bounce back from the international break and climb up the league table. It’s a home clash against Watford this weekend and Mauricio Pochettino surely has an easy left-back selection decision after the pair’s international performances.

Davies stars for Wales

Davies impressed for Wales in the European qualifiers. Ryan Giggs’ men recorded back-to-back 1-1 draws in tricky tests against Slovakia (away) and Croatia (at home).

The Spurs left-back played the full 90 minutes in both games, exhibiting the type of attacking flair that Tottenham fans want to see more often. The 26-year-old went on a windy run before setting up Gareth Bale for Wales’ equaliser against Croatia and Spurs supporters will be hoping he continues his fine run of form.

Rose struggles for England

While Davies was standing out in a Wales shirt, Rose’s stock dropped on Friday night. The 29-year-old started ahead of Ben Chilwell against Czechia but picked up an early yellow card and was struggling to match Lukas Masopust all night.

Czechia produced a shock 2-1 win over the Three Lions and Rose was suspended for the 6-0 win over Bulgaria. After his disappointing showing during the break, Rose’s first-team prospects have surely decreased.

Pochettino’s straightforward decision

It seems a fairly obvious choice for Pochettino as he makes his final preparations for the weekend. Davies has not shown his best form at Tottenham this season but the Wales game could give him the kickstart he needs.

Meanwhile, Rose’s struggles suggest he needs to be benched this weekend. This rest could do him good and motivate him to win back his place.
