International midfielder says £10m Tottenham player is a brilliant leader and has a ‘massive influence’ on his country

Despite not being either the captain or co-vice-captain at Tottenham Hotspur, one Spurs player has been lauded by his countryman for being such a natural leader, and vital for his national team.

There are plenty of leaders emerging in Ange Postecoglou‘s squad. Of course, Hugo Lloris played no part in this campaign before his departure for MLS. And Harry Kane left on the eve of the season.

Heung-min Son was appointed as the new captain. And it was James Maddison and Cristian Romero who were given the role of vice-captains. Even Maddison expressed some sꦺurprise at the decision.

It has proved to be an inspired choice to promote the Argentinian. It has been noted behind the scenes that Romero has s💙hown increased🎐 levels of maturity this season.

But obviously, the attitude of those not playing regularly is also vitally important to Postecoglou. And one of those who surely helps the standard on a day to day basis is Ben Davies.

Ben Davies lauded as a brilliant leader

Davies has actually not played a single minute of Tottenham’s last thඣree Premier League games. It does appear that Postecoglou’s style of play does not exactly play to the 30-year-old’s strengths. But he is someone who can play as a ceꦬntre-back or left-back. And Davies never seems to let the team down when he does feature.

And he remains such an important player at international level. Ahead of Wales’ Euro 2024 play-off tie with Finland, Joe Allen has told just how much of an impact Davies coജntinues to have on Rob Page’s sꦗquad after almost 12 years in the side.

“🃏On top of all the other ⛦great traits, he’s a real natural leader,” he said.

“H♐🌺e has a massive influence on that squad. That’s been vital in the past and still is now.”

The kind of player Tottenham would love to keep for as long as possible

Davies appears to be the kind of player that every single Premier League manager would love to have in the squad. Certainly, Postecoglou absolutely loves Davies.

Of course, he would probably love to play more. His longest run in the side this season came as Tottenham dea🐻lt with a raft of injuries. But you never hear publicly of𒆙 Davies’ frustrations over his game-time.

And when he comes in, he often does well. Many will remember Davies’ absolutely remarkable clearance in the win over New🔜castle earlier this season.

Davies does not tend to be a player who grabs many of the headlines. But there is absolutely n🐭o question that he has been an outstanding signing for around , with well over 300 appearances for his club now under his belt.

And you ꦍwould not be at all surprised if he went on to bring up the century for his country at some stage in the coming years.

He is the kind of player whose influence will probably only become co💖mpletely clear once he is no longer playing for Tottenham and Wales.
