‘Interesting’… Serie A expert says Radu Dragusin is going to have to make a big change at Tottenham

It seems as if it’s only a matter of time until Radu Dragusin is officially a new Tottenham Hotspur player after yesterday’s developments.

Without kicking a ball, Dragusin is already something of a folk legend at Spurs after choosing the move over one to Bayern Munich.

Ange Postecoglou was vital to that decision, making some important promises to Dragusin before he decided his move.

And whilst there’s an overwhelming elation that the Romanian defender is set for North London, he could take some point to adapt.

Serie A expert James Horncastle was speaking on The Athletic’s ‘’ and discussed a stylistic change Dragusin may have to make.

Although he’s thrived with Genoa this season, the Italian side are a very different outfit to Spurs, they often play in a low block.

And that certainly won’t be the case at Tottenham under Postecoglou.

Radu Dragusin will need time to adapt to Totteham’s style under Ange Postecoglou

Speaking on the podcast, Horncastle also thought Juventus may have some regret.

Horncastle said: “Dragusin moved out on loan to Sampdoria and Salernitana, he was then sold to Genoa for what looks like a pittance in hindsight, I think Juventus will be kicking themselves that he only went for £5m now that he’s moving to Tottenham for a multiple of that.

“He was ever-present more or less in Genoa’s promotion-winning campaign back to Serie A. Because of his height and his aerial ability he’s popped up with goals, he’s been playing in a back three for Genoa, so it’ll be interesting to see how he transitions to Ange Postecoglou’s back four.

“He’s been used to playing in a low block with lots of teammates around him, so it’ll be interesting to see how he plays in a high line. He’s got all the raw materials to be a top defender for years to come.”

Patience will be needed

Postecoglou is said to have promised Dragusin regular playing time at the club, but that may not be immediately.

It seems Cristian Romero is back in contention for the weekend’s game against Manchester United.

And although Dragusin might be registered in time, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he wasn’t a starter for Tottenham.

Like any new signing, Dragusin will need time to adapt, even if the club do have a lot of faith in him.

And speaking of signings, it seems Tottenham may have identified their third target of the window.
