‘Interesting’: Journalist suggests Tottenham were never actually going to hire 37-year-old manager
Tottenham were never actually going to hire Vincent Kompany.
Speaking on , Dan Kilpatrick and Tom Allnutt were discussing Kompany after he signed his new contract with Burnley – effectively ruling himself out of the Tottenham running.
Kompany may have ruled himself out of the running, but according to Allnutt, Spurs weren’t likely to ever go and hire the 37-year-old in any case, with the journalist claiming that his sample size of work is a bit too small for Tottenham to consider actually hiring him at the moment.

Kompany not an option
Allnutt stated that Spurs probably wouldn’t have gone for Kompany.
“Just to add, Vincent Kompany has signed a new contract, so I think he’s out of the running as well,” Kilpatrick said.
“Kompany is an interesting one, we said before that De Zerbi’s sample size is small and with Kompany that is even more the case. His work at Anderlecht was only ok, so I suspect Tottenham wouldn’t have gone there anyway,” Allnutt added.
Wise decision
In all honesty, it’s quite wise for Tottenham not to be considering a manager like Kompany at this point.
Look, it’s impossible not to be blown away by what he’s done with this Burnley team, but managing in the Championship is a completely different ball game to managing a team like Tottenham.
Of course, at some point, a big team is going to take a gamble on Kompany, but at a time when things are so precarious at Spurs, they can’t afford to take a risk like this.
Spurs should go for someone who is a bit more proven at this highest level with Julian Nagelsmann and Ruben Amorim looking like standout candidates in our view.
