Report: Inter Milan to beat Tottenham and Newcastle to free transfer

A host of English clubs are set for disappointment in their pursuit of German defender Matthias Ginter, with Inter Milan said to be close to announcing a deal for the 27-year-old.

Tottenham, Chelsea, and Newcastle were all said to be keen on bringing in Ginter. The defender can leave for nothing and is free to negotiate his next move from tomorrow onwards. However, according to, Ginter is now close to signing for Inter Milan.

It’s claimed the Italian outfit are just a step away from confirming a deal for Ginter. The defender has played well over the years for Borussia Monchengladbach. However, he hasn’t put pen to paper on fresh terms and will now walk away from the German side for nothing.

Tottenham were thought to be the most interested club in England. Indeed, their interest stretches all the way back to the summer and had continued even with Antonio Conte now in charge.

However, Ginter appears to be set for Serie A with Conte’s old club set to snatch the defender. Newcastle, meanwhile, will have to get used to such news. Their relegation battle means a whole host of players are said to be wary of making the move to the Northeast.

TBR’s View: Ginter Loss A Blow For English Clubs

Ginter is a good player and on a free, would have been a good signing for a number of teams. However, it looks like it isn’t happening and it just shows there is still lure from other leagues.

Inter, of course, are a huge club. Ginter will, no doubt, shine for the Italian outfit and do well.

For Tottenham, Chelsea, and Newcastle, it’s back to the drawing board and a chance to look at other potential incomings. January will be a busy one, and there’ll be plenty more transfer talk to come.
