Insiders say Arsenal could submit bid for ‘complete’ midfielder as early as next week – journalist

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Palmeiras midfielder Danilo in recent months.

Now, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola has suggested that the Gunners are readying a bid for the 21-year-old.

Nicola, speaking on his – via –  claims to have spoken to Danilo’s representatives.

He says he asked whether Arsenal have been back in touch for the signing.

Danilo’s staff reportedly told Nicola that the Gunners ‘continue monitoring’ the player’s staff.

Nicola then said he heard that Arsenal should place an official bid after the World Cup group stage.

With the last 16 getting under way next weekend, this means it could come very soon.

Could Arsenal soon land the next Gilberto?

Danilo helped his side with the Brazilian top-flight title this season, losing just three games in the process.

Despite being just 21 years of age, Danilo has already made 141 appearances for his club

He has also registered 12 goals and provided his teammates with nine assists.

Better still, Arsenal may be able to land Danilo for a modest fee.

According to , Palmeiras would be willing to accept around €24m (£20.5m) for the ‘complete‘ midfielder.

However, the Gunners could have competition from the likes of Ajax and Monaco.

Nonetheless, Arsenal have several notable advantages.

First of all, the Premier League is more high-profile than Ligue 1 and Eredivisie – and the Gunners top the table.

Secondly, Arsenal have a sizeable Brazilian contingent, which would help Danilo acclimatise to life at the club.
