‘Incredibly important’: Versatile Liverpool man singled out for praise by Klopp
During his time at Liverpool, James Milner has often flown under the radar.
While the likes of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been showered with plaudits, Milner has gone about his duties with minimal fuss.
With the ability to slot in seamlessly in a number of positions, the 61-time England international has been a reliable figure at Anfield since arriving from Manchester City in June 2015.
Despite not being the first name on the teamsheet, his versatility has proved vital as Liverpool won 2019’s Champions League and 2020’s Premier League.
This season has seen a significant drop-off in performance at Liverpool, with the champions now reduced to fighting for a Champions League spot from sixth place.
Milner, however, has not let his standards fall.
As quoted by the , manager Jurgen Klopp believes the 35-year-old is an influential figure both on and off the pitch.
He said:“He is incredibly important for the group as a person and as a character, but as a player as well.
“I think Millie is always around playing or coming on when he is fit.
“He had some little issues, enough to rule him out, in the last month but now he is completely fit and hopefully it stays like this because he is an important player on and off the pitch.”
