‘Incredible’, ‘shocking if true’: Some Spurs fans react to what they’ve heard from Andre Villas-Boas

Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Andre Villas-Boas’ criticism of Daniel Levy.

Sections of the Tottenham fanbase have been slating the chairman for some time now.

From the ill-fated decision to apply for the European Super League to the team’s stagnation in the past few years, criticism of Levy has never been far away recently.

Now, former Tottenham manager Villas-Boas has spoken out about the Spurs chairman.

Levy allegedly encouraged the Portuguese to leave the club after just a solitary season.

In an interview with , Villas-Boas said: “In the year when I reached an agreement to leave Tottenham, we started with a disagreement.

“I understood Tottenham wanted me to go to Paris. I had an offer from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the (2012-13) season.

“But I said, ‘No’. My clause for leaving Tottenham, which (chairman Daniel) Levy was negotiating with Paris, was £15million.

“Chelsea had paid €15million for me and in Tottenham it was £15million. And Levy was of course negotiating this.”

“Bad, bad animosity”

Villas-Boas was in charge in North London between July 2012 and December 2013.

During this time, he managed to lead Spurs to a then record points total.

Despite that, the former Chelsea and Porto boss claims his relationship with Levy turned sour after PSG had shown their interest.

“So I didn’t have the best of relationships with Daniel,” Villas-Boas added.

“I think they wanted me to accept the offer… but I wanted to stay. I had a great time in London. The team was good.

“I didn’t feel at that time that Paris was what I wanted for my career so I decided to risk on that one more year and for me I take things a lot personally.

“I have a different vision of football and, for me, whenever somebody declines something that’s normally better.

“Be it contract wise or the possibility of you winning — for me, you are entitled to a contract renewal.

“That’s how I see things. It wasn’t the case. And that led to a bad, bad animosity between us.

“To the point where it was December and there were no conditions for us to continue working and we reached an agreement to leave.”

Villas-Boas’ comments come at a bad time for Levy, who is not exactly having the best time already.

As well as the ESL fiasco and the first-team squad’s stagnation, Levy’s Jose Mourinho gamble backfired.

And more than two months on, Spurs still haven’t found a replacement.
