‘Incredible’: Rodrigo Bentancur stunned by what his 21-year-old Tottenham teammate did against Leeds on Saturday
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has admitted he was surprised Dejan Kulusevski passed to him for his winning goal against Leeds United.
Spurs go into the World Cup break in the top four of the Premier League and in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
It’s a scenario Spurs fans would have taken at the start of the season, despite some recent struggles.
Bentancur was the hero on Saturday, with his two late goals earning Spurs a massive three points.
The midfielder has never been a prolific scorer throughout his career and is already having his best season in front of goal.
He also scored a last-minute winner against Bournemouth two weeks ago; a habit Antonio Conte will be hoping he can continue.

His first goal against Leeds was a well-taken half-volley that skimmed through the legs of Luke Ayling.
However, the winner was a composed pass into the back of the net after fantastic work from Dejan Kulusevski.
The Swede has made a habit of providing crucial assists in his short Tottenham career, and Bentancur was the latest welcome recipient.
Bentancur surprised Kulusevski passed to him
“Well, just as well, I didn’t think Kulu [Kulusevski] was going to give it to me [the ball], then he passed to me at the last moment.
“The truth is the first ball and then the play from Kulu was incredible. I just finished it off, and honestly, I am really happy with the goal.”
Kulusevski has been an incredible signing for Spurs since arriving on loan from Juventus in January.
Despite missing a month of action with an injury, he’s still provided five league assists this season.
No Tottenham player has laid on more, while only Harry Kane trumped his total last season despite arriving halfway through the campaign.
Bentancur shouldn’t have been surprised that Kulusevski passed to him given how unselfish he’s been throughout his Spurs career.

Ivan Perisic was certainly impressed with his performance at the weekend.
While Antonio Conte praised his return to action during their cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.
A month off to fully recover should do the young Swede a lot of good.
He’ll be cheering his teammates on for their respective nations at the World Cup this month.
