‘Incredible’ player who Tottenham and Newcastle are interested in has suffered a significant injury
Both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United find themselves searching for a new defender before Deadline Day next week.
Perhaps Newcastle’s need for a centre-back is more pressing than Tottenham’s right now, Eddie Howe looks set to start Emil Krath as his right-sided centre-back on Sunday against Bournemouth.
Newcastle wanted to sign a central defender even before Fabian Schar was sent off against Southampton, and his three-match ban only intensifies the problem.
In terms of Ange Postecoglou’s needs, Spurs do only still have three recognised centre-backs heading in a season which involves a Europa League campaign.
Ashley Phillips has just been sent out on loan once again, and it seems slightly precarious that it would be Ben Davies coming in as fourth choice.
Newcastle have been trying to sign Marc Guehi for the past week or so but are still yet to agree a deal with Crystal Palace, who have just lost Joachim Andersen to Fulham.
But as an alternative to Guehi, Andreas Christensen has emerged as target for Newcastle, a player also linked with Spurs.
Andreas Christensen suffers Achilles injury after Tottenham and Newcastle links
Tottenham are interested in Christensen according to reports, a player Antonio Conte once called ‘incredible’.
The 28-year-old’s future looks increasingly uncertain right now given he’s not expected to be a crucial player under Hansi Flick at Barcelona.

However, a recent injury suffered by Christensen may now scupper any chances of him leaving the Catalan club before next week’s deadline.
According to Spanish outlet , Christensen has just suffered an Achilles injury which could keep him out for up to two months.
The club are hoping it will be a shorter period, but the report suggests that the timeframe of his return still remains to be seen.
Therefore, with Newcastle possessing a pressing need for a centre-back, there now seems little logic behind a move for Christensen.
Similarly, Tottenham will likely now end their interest for this summer at least – any deal would now represent a significant risk.
Back to the drawing board for both teams, and perhaps this news will only intensify Newcastle’s attempts to sign Guehi.
And Spurs may actually now explore using Archie Gray as a centre-back to avoid any short-term signing, as they did in pre-season.
That being said, Postecoglou could try a different Tottenham player in a new role in the coming weeks after Dominic Solanke’s injury.
