‘Incredible’: BBC pundit stunned after moment he ‘never expected’ from 25-year-old Spurs player vs West Ham

Tottenham didn’t get the result they wanted on Wednesday, but Cristian Romero made a solid return to the team against West Ham.

The Argentine had a point to prove after his red card against Chelsea a few weeks ago, and he didn’t take long to reintroduce himself to the Spurs fans against West Ham.

Romero bagged an incredible goal to put Spurs a goal to the good early in the game with a looping header into the far corner.

Speaking on (7/12/23 8:25PM), Michael Brown was full of praise for Romero after his goal during the live commentary of the game, describing his header as incredible while claiming that he never would’ve expected Romero to be the man to bag the opener for Tottenham.

Brown shocked by Romero goal

The pundit gave his verdict on the Argentine’s strike.

“Incredible, of all the people you needed to bring it back here, he’d made those mistakes and he needed a good performance, but I never expected him to give them the lead from this corner kick. It just loops into the top corner, what a start for Spurs,” Brown said.

Return ruined

Romero would’ve been buzzing with his return to first-team action here until West Ham turned the game on its head and ruined his party.

The Argentine had received plenty of stick in recent weeks after his silly dismissal against Chelsea, and his opening goal certainly helped get him back on track.

When he’s on his game, Romero is a fantastic player, and he showed glimpses of that against West Ham on Thursday as Spurs looked much more assured in possession and at the back aside from a daft mistake from Destiny Udogie.

Interestingly, Romero is becoming more and more of an attacking threat these days, that’s his third goal of the season already, and while that’s not his main job, it’s always useful to have a centre-back who can pop up with a goal every now and then from a set piece when you need him.

Tottenham will certainly be relieved to have Romero back, and we can only hope that he doesn’t pick up any more red cards this season.

Spurs will be disappointed after this game, but Romero’s return is one positive to take at least.
