Indeed, the 19-year-old reportedly had a medical at Liverpool.

There was optimism that the Reds could make it two great January signings after landing Luis Diaz.

However, Liverpool sadly ran out of time on transfer deadline day.

Both Carvalho’s move to Anfield and his temporary switch back to Fulham had to be completed before the deadline.

That was ultimately not possible, so Carvalho will see out the remaining six months of his contract at Craven Cottage.

Nonetheless, Romano has previously reported that Liverpool are trying to get a move through in June.

This would help avoid a tribunal setting the fee, which would be the case if the youngster joined another English club.

“Part of the future plans for Liverpool”

On Friday, Romano spoke on his about Liverpool’s transfer business in January.

After speaking about the Diaz deal – and the significant role Klopp played in getting it through – he discussed the Carvalho situation.

“Liverpool are still confident of that one,” said Romano. “Why? Because of Jurgen Klopp.

“He wants Fabio Carvalho, he’s doing incredible in the Championship with Fulham, doing very well.

“Jurgen Klopp is convinced that this boy could be a really interesting one for Liverpool in the future.

“And this is why Liverpool will be again in conversation with the player, his agent and Fulham to find a solution in the coming weeks.”

Romano also says the Reds had an agreement in place for 9-10million euros (around £8.5million) in January.

Although the youngster will become a free agent in the summer, any deal would include compensation for Fulham.

“Now they will discuss again for Fabio Carvalho,” concluded Romano.

“With Jurgen Klopp who wanted Luis Diaz and wants Fabio Carvalho as part of the future plans for Liverpool.”
