In-demand Arsenal-linked £15m centre-back speaks out over his future

Reported Arsenal target Matthias Ginter has spoken out about his future amid links with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners and their London rivals.

The 26-year-old defender played a crucial role in an impressive season for Borussia Monchengladbach, in which they secured a Bundesliga top-four finish and Champions League football.

Ginter’s great form, which has seen him become a regular for the Germany national team, seems to have caught the attention of several top European clubs.

According to a report from late July, Arsenal and Chelsea had enquired about Ginter’s availability on a free transfer for next summer.

However, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan were said to be in the race for his signature in the current transfer window.

But now, in a blow to all of his reported suitors, the reported signing from Borussia Dortmund has made it clear that he isn’t going anywhere.

“I’m definitely staying in Gladbach,” Ginter told  when asked about the transfer rumours.

“Of course I heard of the enquiries and was flattered by this attention, but I’ve said often enough how good things are for me in Gladbach.”

Ginter is a top-class player whose heroics for club and country have rightly put him in the spotlight, but to enquire about him for next summer seems odd, given how well he’s done and how much demand there seems to be for him.

For the time being, he looks set on staying at Gladbach, but there’s little chance he’ll get to the end of his contract and be allowed to leave on a free – he’s bound to either renew at his club or potentially leave for a sizeable fee and go elsewhere.
