‘Immense quality’: Ryan Mason lauds Bale after recent performances amid claims winger could return
Interim Tottenham Hotspur manager Ryan Mason has waxed lyrical about on-loan forward Gareth Bale, claiming the Welshman has immense quality.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Leeds United, the 29-year-old lauded the winger’s performances in training across the last two weeks.
Bale has enjoyed a storming last fortnight in north London, first scoring the equaliser against Southampton before striking a hat-trick against bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United.
It’s opened up questions over Jose Mourinho’s use of the attacker during his time with the club as the player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett proclaimed the 31-year-old endured an unnecessary ‘rough ride’
When talking about Bale and his recent form, Mason said: “Gareth (Bale) is a top professional with immense quality and the last two weeks in training he has been excellent. I pick the team from training performances and certain individuals who I think will help the team and against Southampton we really felt we needed him with Harry (Kane) missing.”
“Someone we could rely on to produce that moment and he’s gone and produced that in the last two Premier League matches. He’s happy which is important as a player and I think that has helped to see Gareth close to his best. He has proved over the last couple of weeks he’s still got that quality in the final third and I hope it continues.”

TBR View: Bale must return to the club for next season
Reports over the last few days has claimed Spurs have first refusal to sign Bale on-loan next season for the same terms in which he joined last summer. The claims from went on to say the ace loves to be back at the club and has enjoyed a better time under Mason than he did under Mourinho.
With the quality he possesses, it’s hard to look at the experienced winger and turn him down especially if the club can secure him for the in which they signed him last year.
His performances have shown off that he still possesses the quality which saw his parent club, Real Madrid, dish out a mammoth contract to the star back in 2016.
And with the Lilywhites looking likely to play Europa League football next year, they could do with continuation of the current squad size as oppose to depletion.
