‘Immense’ player says he should have scored more Everton goals and is now working on his shooting in training
Everton defender Nathan Patterson is finally showing his quality at Goodison Park but says he wants to add goals and assists to his game.
Patterson made his name as a marauding right-back at Rangers in a team which would dominate the ball in almost every domestic game.
But he has had to adjust his game in the Toffees side but in an interview with the , he said he wants to add goals and assists to his game.
Everton defender Patterson wants to score more goals
He said: “I could probably have a couple of goals if my shooting was a wee bit better but I am working on that in training.
“The assists will come. I believe in myself going forward. I don’t shy away from it. But when you are playing a team higher in the league, you need to suss out your opponent and see the areas you can attack.
“The manager gives you certain instructions, where he wants you to be in terms of a block, but when it gets to a certain part of the pitch he wants you to go and express yourself.
“It is not ‘do this, do that.’ It is do this until you can use your own skillset and drive the team forward.”
Patterson has made Alan Shearer’s latest Premier League Team of the Week for his performance in the Merseyside derby draw with Liverpool.
He was named in the team alongside Jordan Pickford, who has now unfortunately picked up an injury which will keep him out of the forthcoming international break.
Patterson was described as ‘immense‘ and he really looks like the long-term successor to Seamus Coleman Everton have been looking for.
