‘Immense’… Celtic fans are urging Brendan Rodgers to start 21-year-old player vs Rangers now

With the big Glasgow Derby coming up, the Celtic fans have been enjoying much-improved performances from Brendan Rodgers’s side recently.

The Celtic manager was coming under a bit of pressure after back-to-back defeats against Kilmarnock and Hearts. Questions were being raised about Rodgers regretting coming back to Celtic and about the team’s style of football this season.

But after impressive showings against Livingston and Dundee, the fans can now look forward to the Rangers game with more optimism.

Two clean sheets show that they are now managing to keep the back door shut and five goals in two games mean that this Celtic team are no strangers to finding the back of the net either.

But it was the performance of Paulo Bernardo that really lit a fire under the Celtic fans as the Portuguese international had the Hoops support buzzing.

Celtic fans are loving Paulo Bernardo now

The 21-year-old Portuguese u21 international has been used mainly as a Champions League player by Brendan Rodgers this season whilst domestically he has to to kick his heels on the bench.

However, starting in both wins against Livingston and Dundee, the Celtic fans are urging the Hoops gaffer to unleash Bernardo on Rangers.

Celebrating his first-ever Celtic goal, the club put a post on social media channel where the fans gathered to congratulate the youngster.

One fan was seriously impressed with Bernardo’s Dundee performance, “Immense today.” and another agreed by posting, “Baller.”

Another Celtic fan says the on-loan Benfica man must not be dropped, “Thought he was good Vs Livi. And good again today. Deserves to keep his place.” Whilst another wants Bernardo to get the not against the Ibrox club, “Call me crazy but I think he deserves to start on Saturday.”

It’s fair to say the 21-year-old was getting a lot of love from the fans and he was getting more from his manager in his post-match interview.

‘He did great’ – Brendan Rodgers loved Paulo Bernardo’s Celtic performance

The Celtic manager was waxing lyrical about his Portuguese midfielder and whilst he wouldn’t confirm if he was in contention for the Glasgow Derby, Rodgers was delighted with Bernardo’s performance.

Rogers said [], “For Paulo it was good. He’s such a mature player for a young player. He’s always had a great attitude at training.

“He’s played in a lot of big games, which is a challenge when you’re playing at Champions League level. He’s maybe not started so much in the domestic games, because he’s still understanding the style and what’s required.

“But he had a wee bit of everything today – he had a wee bit of dig, put his foot in, passed the ball and made runs into the box.

“He did great for the goal because I thought it was away from him but he eventually got there.”

Bernardo showed great determination to get to the ball to poke home the opener in the 3-0 win over Dundee and it seems now that he is coming into some very good form after his goal yesterday.

I believe he will start against Rangers. He will be high on confidence now and that is exactly what Celtic need if they are to get a win against their biggest rivals.
