‘I’m very disappointed’… 31-year-old says that he really let himself down when he was at Leeds
Jesse Marsch’s time at Leeds United didn’t quite go to plan.
The American didn’t get the results he wanted at Elland Road, and ultimately, that cost him his job last year.
The Marsch era at Leeds was a disappointment, especially as he came in to replace Marcelo Bielsa after such a successful spell at Elland Road.
However, every manager is always backed by a coaching staff, and one man who was on Marsch’s staff at Leeds was Rene Maric.
The 31-year-old has worked for some of the biggest clubs in the world as a coach, and he’s often done a very good job.
Speaking on the , Maric spoke about his time at Leeds, and he says that he has some serious regrets about the way he did his job at Elland Road.

The 31-year-old spoke about his time in Yorkshire.
“I think there was some turmoil in terms of the higher-ups. That’s not a criticism, that’s normal. I’m very disappointed that it didn’t work out, I still track every result, in touch with the coaching staff and giving them ideas and wishing them luck,” Maric said.
“In terms of the way I worked my role, I wanted to do it better, if I could redo it there are things I would’ve done differently, I would’ve worked differently, for myself and from my own perspective, I didn’t do the job I wanted to.”
Learning experience
Maric’s time at Leeds didn’t go to plan, but he can just chalk this down to a learning experience.
At the age of just 31, Maric is still such a young coach, and these sorts of setbacks can actually prove to be a good thing in the long-term as Maric looks to hone his craft.
Constant success can breed complacency, but a setback like this may allow Maric to consider what he has to do to reach the top of the game, and avoid another situation like the one he faced at Leeds.
Maric is still a talented coach who should have a bright future in the game.
