Aston Villa and Leeds United played out a 3-3 draw last night and almost everyone who witnessed it came out saying ‘what a game!’

The visitors took an early lead thanks to Dan James and the ex-Manchester United man almost scored another a few moments later. However, this time, his fierce strike just rattled the crossbar.

Villa survived and took their chances. Philippe Coutinho scored one and set up Jacob Ramsey twice and it just looked like Steven Gerrard’s men would pick up all three points. However, Leeds bounced back and secured a point.

Gerrard had his say after the game and the Villa boss claimed that players of both sides were ‘feeling it’ at half-time.

Gerrard: Leeds and Aston Villa players were ‘feeling it’ at half time

Speaking to the after the frantic game, Gerrard said: “I’m sure at half-time both sets of players were feeling it. It was a great advert for Premier League football, it’s the reason we love the league.

“As a coach, I’m not sure you want to be involved in too many of them. My job is to help entertain the fans and get them excited, but at the same time, we need to be more solid and better defensively.

“Fantastic play, a lot of ‘wow’ moments, a lot of top individual performances, but as a team, we need to give less away.”

It really was a fantastic game of football to watch for both sets of supporters and the neutrals as well. Games like last night’s are exactly why we love the sport so much, and Gerrard’s right, the players would’ve been knackered.

Both sides gave everything on the pitch and as annoying as it is for Villa fans to blow a two-goal lead, a draw is probably a fair result after such an entertaining game.

Despite all the noise about how good Villa have been and how much Leeds have struggled, the two sides are only separated by four points.

Gerrard’s men definitely seem more confident, but don’t be surprised if Marcelo Bielsa’s side go on a good run and leapfrog the Villans by the end of the season.
