‘I’m so sorry’… Manager apologises to £42m Arsenal target after what he’s done to him

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given his verdict on Kalvin Phillips, who has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Guardiola has suggested that he does not have Phillips in his plans.

So, what has Pep Guardiola said about Manchester City midfielder and Arsenal target Kalvin Phillips? Let’s take a look.

Pep Guardiola apologises to Arsenal target Kalvin Phillips

Well, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been speaking about Kalvin Phillips, who is on the radar of Arsenal among other clubs.

According to , Arsenal want to bring in Phillips as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey, who is wanted by Juventus.

Liverpool are also interested in the former Leeds United midfielder and have already enquired about the 28-year-old, who cost City £42 million () when they signed him in the summer of 2022.

Guardiola has suggested that Phillips is not going to get much playing time under him.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has apologised to Phillips for not giving him much playing time.

Guardiola told about Phillips: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I’ve said that many times.

“He doesn’t deserve what has happened to him and I’m so sorry. The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example. And after that I have to give him something and I didn’t do that.

“It’s just because I visualise some things and visualise the team and things – and I struggle to see him. I’m not very pleased [with myself] and I am so sorry for him. I will not say that [to him] because it is a business and I have to be a professional.

“But if one guy behaves [poorly], I don’t care. But the way he behaves with the team-mates and everyone, I care. So that’s why hopefully it can turn around.

“And I’ve said many times, if it comes to January and he stays, I’m more than pleased because he trains really good and he’s a lovely guy and character.”

Kalvin Phillips could be tempted to join Arsenal

In my view, Manchester City and England international midfielder Kalvin Phillips could be tempted to move to Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Arsenal pushed City hard for the Premier League title last season and could win it this time around.

Phillips plays with Declan Rice for England, and the chance to reunite with him at club level and play together in the middle of the park could be tempting for the City star. Rice himself rates Phillips highly.

The big question is whether City would sell Phillips to Arsenal in the middle of the season and make the Gunners stronger.
