‘I’m pretty convinced’: Sky reporter thinks ‘wonderful’ CL-winning midfielder would love Arsenal move

Arsenal “would be very high up” on the list of clubs Georginio Wijnaldum would like to play for, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

The Gunners, whose midfield ranks are very light at present, have been linked with the PSG midfielder in recent months.

Mikel Arteta has found himself several midfielders down two weeks into the New Year.

Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny have gone to the Africa Cup of Nations. And Ainsley Maitland-Niles has joined Roma on loan.

Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka is serving a suspension and Martin Odegaard has tested positive for covid.

Therefore, there’s certainly scope for Arsenal to bolster their midfield ranks.

And Wijnaldum, who is currently struggling for game time at PSG, would be a good shout for the Gunners.

Speaking to Dutch news outlet back in October, Wijnaldum said that he was ‘not completely happy’ in Paris.

The Liverpool cult hero felt he hasn’t been given enough opportunities to play consistent minutes.

According to , Arsenal were one of the first clubs to reportedly register their interest in a Wijnaldum loan.

Now, Solhekol has claimed that Wijnaldum wants to return to the Premier League, and would also be open to joining the Gunners.

“I’m pretty convinced he wants to return to the Premier League and that he would want to play for Arsenal,” he on Sky Sports.

“Arsenal would be very high up on the list of clubs he would like to play for.”

Ian Wright recently backed the Gunners to try their luck in bringing the Premier League and Champions League winner to London.

“People like Thomas Partey going away (to AFCON),” Wright said on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, via the .

“You do need to then maybe bring in, Wijnaldum, I saw Wijnaldum’s name.

“That would be amazing. A loan signing from PSG. Someone like that in the midfield, experienced.”
