Luke Edwards shares fresh hope for Newcastle when it comes to their bid for Marc Guehi
Newcastle United remain keen on a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as the window enters its final two weeks.
The Magpies got their season off to a winning start by seeing off Southampton yesterday.
However, away from the actual on-field action, there remains a touch of frustration at the club as they try and get a deal done to bring Guehi to St James’ Park.
Reports have suggested Palace have rejected a package worth around £60m for Guehi so far and there are suggestions Newcastle are looking at Andreas Christensen as well as a potential Guehi alternative.
But all is not lost it seems for the Mags when it comes to Guehi, with the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards sharing some potentially positive news.

Newcastle’s bid for Marc Guehi not dead in the water just yet
to provide an update on Guehi and Newcastle, Edwards has suggested that the Magpies’ latest offer for the defender is not dead just yet.
According to Edwards, Palace have not yet informed Newcastle that the very latest bid has been rejected and in that sense, it means there’s hope for Newcastle.
Big decision needed one Guehi from all parties
After selling Michael Olise and managing to keep hold of Ebere Eze this summer, Palace chairman Steve Parish is in no rush to sell Marc Guehi.
However, there has to be some sort of decision sooner or later.
Yes, Palace are rejecting bids for now but the fact this latest one hasn’t been turned down could suggest there’s an acceptance of getting a deal done.
For Newcastle, it’s all about getting an answer quickly and a case of how much do they pay. £65m seems a huge sum, and any higher would seem a touch ridiculous.
Guehi, too, needs some clarity.
This week, then, feels like a big one for all involved and there simply has to be some sort of decision.
