Illan Meslier display shows why Leeds signing Dean Henderson looks unlikely

that Leeds United are interested in Dean Henderson with the youngster keen to leave Manchester United on loan in the January transfer window.

Henderson wanting a loan move is understandable. The goalkeeper has barely featured for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men this season. that the likes of Leeds and Brighton were monitoring his situation.

It was intriguing to see the Whites linked with Henderson. Of course, he is not a player who has enjoyed the best relationship with the Elland Road faithful in the past.

But Leeds also have a couple of goalkeepers already. And while they may be open to improving their options between the sticks, signing a player on loan may not represent a step in the right direction.

So it was arguably already difficult to see Leeds signing Henderson, who earns £100,000-a-week (via ). And following the weekend, a move to West Yorkshire may have become even more unlikely.

Illan Meslier produced an extremely impressive performance in the stalemate with Arsenal. He made one particularly important save to deny Bukayo Saka during the second-half.

It was a reminder of how good the young Frenchman can be after he had conceded eight goals in the previous two games.

And given how loyal Bielsa can be to those who possess a place in the side, Meslier’s performance highlighted how there would probably be no guarantees Henderson would feature regularly if he joined on loan in January.

The situation could perhaps change if Leeds lose either Meslier or Kiko Casilla to injury before January arrives.

But as things stand, Meslier looks set to remain first-choice for the foreseeable future. So even if a move for Henderson was on the radar, it seems highly unlikely that Leeds would be able to offer any of the assurances the England international will be hoping for.
