‘I’ll be honest’: £30m Arsenal player says he’s found being at the World Cup very ‘difficult’
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale says that being at the World Cup with England as a backup has been ‘difficult’.
Ramsdale starts every week for the Gunners but knew he was going to Qatar to offer cover for Jordan Pickford and hlp get him ready in training.
He and Nick Pope of Newcastle are Pickford’s deputies and Ramsdale told that situation has not always been easy to deal with.

Ramsdale says World Cup has been difficult at times
He admitted: “It’s difficult, it took a few days of getting used to. I’ll be honest. But the good thing is that me and Nick are in the same boat. I know he’s done it before and so have I, but we are both playing well at club level, both number ones.
“But it helps when all three of us plus the goalkeeper coach all get on. We are now seeing our training helping Jordan in the games and giving him a platform to really go and strive off.
“My role is to push Jordan and be ready if needed. Hopefully that isn’t the case, but also shooting, free kicks, penalties, having a laugh and a joke. And the day after the game training as hard as I can to get the rest of the boys ready.
“But it is difficult, I’m not going to say it’s been a lot of fun and a breeze but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve needed to do and hopefully we will be here another week.”
man Ramsdale will have known his role going into the tournament, but there are not many players who will have gone to Qatar knowing that barring injury, they will not get onto the pitch at all.
Those sessions he mentions the day after the game for players who did not play the night before must be hard to keep your standards up in.
But this England squad do exactly that and that is part of the strength of the whole group who are united to try and get the result tomorrow night which would really get the country dreaming.
