If Arsenal sign Tierney, Emery faces a big decision about Monreal and Kolasinac

According to , Arsenal are set to launch a third bid to sign Kieran Tierney. The Gunners have already had two offers for the left-back rejected by Celtic. However, Unai Emery will be hopeful that a third offer proves sufficient to prise the 22-year-old away from the Scottish champions.

Tierney would be a fine signing for Arsenal to make. He would bring plenty of quality to the Emirates Stadium. He also has lots of potential to improve further in future. Emery certainly needs to improve his defensive contingent if he is to stand any chance of leading the north London club back into the Champions League.

Tierney would be a regular starter for the Gunners, which leaves Emery with a big decision to make regarding the two first team left-backs currently at his disposal.

The long-serving Nacho Monreal has enjoyed some great times as a Gunner. However, at 33-years-old, he is very much in the twilight of his career. Yet, he remains one of the club’s most consistent and reliable defensive options.

Sead Kolasinac, on the other hand, is far more prone to defensive errors and lapses in concentration. At 26-years-old though, he potentially still has his best years ahead of him. He also offers plenty going forward, and can be something of a secret weapon for Emery to call upon.

There isn’t room for both Monreal and Kolasinac in the Arsenal squad alongside Tierney. Should the club succeed in signing the Scot, either the veteran Spaniard or the powerful Bosnian should be moved on this summer.

Given that he has struggled to adapt to English football, but still probably retains plenty of value in the transfer market, it is Kolasinac who should be ousted. Monreal still has enough left in the tank to provide reliable back up for a season. Arsenal can then worry about recruiting some long term competition for Tierney next summer.
