‘I’d be surprised’…O’Hara can’t see ‘brilliant’ 23-year-old signing for Tottenham in January despite reports

Jamie O’Hara has reacted to reports that Chelsea could sell Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur potentially interested in the midfielder.

O’Hara was speaking on (broadcast on 12/12; 9:43) following claims this week that the Blues may let the England international leave if he will not sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Conor Gallagher has been a regular under Mauricio Pochettino this season. The only game he has missed in the Premier League came when he was suspended for the trip to Manchester United this month.

However, there now appears to be more than a question mark over his future at Chelsea. The reports that his contract expires at the end of next season. And so far, there are few signs that he is going to sign an extension.

The club could therefore, look to cash in in January. And the Daily Mail reports that Tottenham could reignite their interest in the 23-year-old.

Clearly, Jamie O’Hara would love to see Gallagher join Tottenham. However, he is not convinced that it is a deal Spurs will get done.

“Listen, I really like Conor Gallagher I think he’s got brilliant energy, high energy, he gets around the pitch,” he told .

“He lacks a little bit of what [James] Maddison’s got in terms of star quality but he’s got energy and you’ve seen with Ange Postecoglou’s side he likes a bit of fitness, he likes someone with high energy.

“I’d be surprised if Chelsea let him go to be honest, I think he’s been quite a big part of their side this season.

“In terms of one of their half-decent performers only him, Cole Palmer and [Raheem] Sterling have actually done anything good for them really.

“I’d be surprised if they let him go but if they want to then yeah we’ll take him.”

Nothing concerning Chelsea should be surprising anymore

The first thing to say is that all bets seem to be off when it comes to Chelsea and the transfer window. They have overseen some remarkable moves in the last few years. So the idea of letting Gallagher go does not seem that farfetched right now.

But clearly, it would alarm Chelsea fans if they allowed Gallagher to leave. He has been one of the few potential positives in their season. And he is an academy graduate.

But if the chance presents itself to Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou’s side should surely accept the opportunity with both hands as he could be a fantastic addition to their ranks.
