‘Done fantastically well’: Ian Wright wowed by £13m Arsenal ace’s Villa display

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has praised Bernd Leno for his display in the Gunners’ win at Aston Villa.

The 30-year-old was Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper up until September last year.

Leno’s early-season struggles led to Mikel Arteta giving a chance to summer signing Aaron Ramsdale.

Since then, the England international has cemented his place in between the sticks.

Meanwhile, Leno has had to make do with FA Cup and Carabao Cup outings.

However, Ramsdale’s meant the Germany international started against Villa.

Although the hosts didn’t trouble Leno much, he still looked a solid presence and barely put a foot wrong.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, via , Wright said: “You have to mention the defence.

“Bernd Leno done fantastically well when he came in today.

“Villa obviously didn’t put him under as much pressure as I thought they would.

“But the defence, the midfield, everything was so solid.

“And Arsenal winning games away from home like that is brilliant to see.”

Leno cost Arsenal £22.5million in 2018 from Bayer Leverkusen and has made 125 competitive Gunners appearances.

However, it’s extremely unlikely he’ll stay put past the end of the season.

Not only has Ramsdale leapfrogged him, but Matt Turner is also set to join the Gunners in the summer.

Last September, Rudy Galetti Arsenal would be willing to sell Leno for 15m euro (around £13m) this summer.
