Ian Wright very excited by the idea of Newcastle signing £40m Man Utd player

Newcastle United have work to do in this summer transfer window as they look to kick on to the next level.

The Magpies have been brilliant this season, but some positions in their squad do need an upgrade or more depth adding.

Newcastle need a new centre-back, Eddie Howe is keen on Marc Guehi, while Malick Thiaw has been linked to Newcastle too.

The Tyneside outfit also need to upgrade their attack.

Bryan Mbeumo has been linked to Newcastle, and now, speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing the idea of Marcus Rashford heading to St James’ Park.

Ian Wright reacts to the idea of Marcus Rashford joining Newcastle

Wright spoke about the idea of Rashford joining Newcastle.

Rashford is currently at Aston Villa, and Villa hold a option to buy the forward.

However, Wright does like the idea of Rashford heading to Newcastle.

“Rashford to Newcastle?” The host asked.

“Wow. That is the kind of signing Newcastle should be making, that would be dangerous, Rashford at Newcastle, yes,” Wright said.

“I really like that. I was thinking, Rashford at Forest, no, Rashford at Newcastle, that could be…”

Marcus Rashford compared to Jacob Murphy this season

Wright is excited by the idea of Rashford heading to Newcastle, but, at this point, you have to question whether or not this is a deal worth doing.

Newcastle are looking to upgrade on Jacob Murphy – which is why they bid for Anthony Elanga in the summer.

However, looking at the stats this season, there’s a real argument to make that Murphy is better than Rashford.

Of course, throughout their careers, Rashford has been playing at a much higher level than Murphy, which is why he’s an England international, but, as the old adage goes, you’re only as good as your last game.

Newcastle may want to steer clear of signing Rashford and go for a player who is a much more clear upgrade on what they already have.

Where Rashford ends up next season remains to be seen.
