Ian Wright thinks Aston Villa star Emi Buendia will ‘explode’ under Unai Emery

Premier League legend Ian Wright thinks Aston Villa star Emiliano Buendia will explode under new boss Unai Emery.

The Argentinian joined the Villans from Norwich City for a club-record fee of £33 million last year (). He was incredible for the Canaries during his time there, but he just hasn’t been able to replicate the same kind of form at Villa Park.

Ian Wright thinks Aston Villa star Emi Buendia will ‘explode’ under Unai Emery

Aston Villa announced the appointment of Unai Emery as their new manager earlier this week. The Spaniard will replace Steven Gerrard, and we must say, he could really change the fortunes of the club.

Wright knows Emery well having followed him during the 50-year-old’s time at Arsenal a few years ago. He knows exactly what the Spaniard can bring out of his players, and he feels one Villa star could really explode under the new manager – Buendia.

The Arsenal legend believes the 25-year-old is capable of winning games on his own for his side. However, he just needs a top-quality manager to pull him aside and push him in the right way.

Wright said on the this week: “Buendia is something waiting to explode.

“He needs somebody to grab him by the shoulders and say: ‘Come here look at me, you’ve got more and I want more.’ He’s got something about him where he can get games by the scruff of the neck and make your team win.

“He’s (Emery) got players there and hopefully, Unai will use those offensive players. ”

Buendia could be the perfect player for Emery at Villa.

The Spaniard is a big fan of versatile players who work hard for the team. The 25-year-old Argentinian checks those boxes, and he has proven during his time at Norwich that he’s capable of scoring goals and picking up assists as well.

At Villa, Buendia has only scored five goals in 50 appearances. That’s really poor for someone as talented as him, but he could become a real star under Emery if he listens to the Spaniard.

It will be interesting to see how Emery will get on. If Wright’s right and Buendia really does explode, Aston Villa could quickly climb up the table and even achieve a top-half finish this season.
