Ian Wright sends message to Aaron Ramsdale after he signs for Arsenal

Ian Wright sent a heartfelt message on Instagram last night to Aaron Ramsdale after the goalkeeper completed a move to Arsenal.

The Gunners enjoyed a very busy Friday.

Firstly, Martin Odegaard re-signed for the north London club on a permanent basis from Real Madrid after a loan at the Emirates Stadium last year. Secondly, Arsenal completed a transfer for Ramsdale from Championship club Sheffield United.

Ramsdale, 23, has joined Arsenal on a four-year contract and will now push Bernd Leno for the number one position.

The shot-stopper was part of the England squad at Euro 2020 without getting on the pitch. Also, he’s a highly rated young goalkeeper with decent experience at his age.

Unfortunately, he’s got the unwanted record of back-to-back Premier League relegations on his CV from his time with Sheffield United and Bournemouth. He’s done enough, though, on the pitch to get a big move.

Arsenal legend Wright responded to Ramsdale’s post after his transfer was announced yesterday.

Can Ramsdale replace Leno as Arsenal number one?

For Ramsdale, it feels like there is a lot of pressure on him at his new club already.

A £24million deal seems a lot for someone who could spend most of his time on the bench this season, but it’s surely an investment looking towards his potential moving forward.

The signing should definitely help 29-year-old Leno because it’s going to raise the competition in training.

Ramsdale definitely suits Mikel Arteta’s style of play much more in terms of playing out from the back. Therefore, it’s going to be fascinating to see if Leno keeps the gloves throughout the entire season.
