Ian Wright sends Instagram praise to Liverpool duo after Carabao Cup clash
Ian Wright has applauded Liverpool stars Rhian Brewster and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on Instagram after the Reds produced a penalty-shootout victory to down Wright’s old side Arsenal at Anfield in the Carabao Cup.
Brewster, 19, made just his second senior appearance for Liverpool at Anfield after his debut against MK Dons earlier this season. He endured a frustrating night, though he worked hard and scored in the penalty shootout.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, meanwhile, continued his push for an England recall ahead of Euro 2020 with a stunning display – scoring a wonderful effort from 20 yards against his old side, and laying on the cross for Shkodran Mustafi’s own goal.
Both Brewster and Oxlade-Chamberlain posted on Instagram after the stunning clash – which ended 5-5 before Dani Celballos’ missed penalty saw Liverpool finally progress 5-4 in the shootout.
Divock Origi and Gabriel Martinelli both scored twice for each side, while Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Lucas Torreira netted for the Gunners. Shkodran Mustafi scored an own goal, while Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner made it five for the Reds.
Gunners legend Wright reacted to both Brewster and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s posts, urging Brewster to continue to work hard and progress. He told former Arsenal star Oxlade-Chamberlain that it was nice to see him playing, after plenty of injuries.
