Ian Wright says he could see £13m player signing for Tottenham

Tottenham have missed out on some brilliant signings over the years.

The likes of Jack Grealish, and Paulo Dybala are just a couple of players Tottenham have nearly signed in recent times.

Mikkel Damsgaard is another player Tottenham were strongly linked with only for the attacker to end up elsewhere.

The Danish winger would eventually join Brentford for , and while he had a slow start to life in the Premier League, he’s really starting to hit his stride now.

Indeed, Damsgaard has started this season brilliantly with Brentford, and speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been full of praise for the attacker.

Interestingly, Wright says that after his recent upturn in form, he could now see Damsgaard playing for a team like Tottenham.

Ian Wright could see Mikkel Damsgaard at Tottenham

Wright spoke about Damsgaard and his recent form.

“You know who I’m going to go with, Damsgaard at Brentford. That five year deal he signed is starting to look really good now,” Wright said.

“I remember he scored that free kick against England, and at the time I think Barcelona were all over him, the two Milan teams were all over him, Spurs. Yeah, with the form he has now, you could see him somewhere like Spurs.”

Tottenham made a better signing than Damsgaard

Mikkel Damsgaard has started this season very well for Brentford, but he’s still some way away from being at Tottenham’s level.

Spurs almost signed Damsgaard back in 2021, while they were once again linked back in 2023.

However, it’s hard to imagine that Damsgaard would get into this Tottenham team.

Damsgaard showed at Euro 2020 that he’s a talent, but since then, he hasn’t quite lived up to his billing.

As good as he has been as of late, he still hasn’t scored a single Premier League goal in 56 appearances, while he only has four assists to his name.

Ultimately, Tottenham would end up signing the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson to bolster their wide areas, and it’s fair to say that both Kulusevski and Johnson are better signings than Damsgaard would have been.

The Brentford star could get a big move next summer if he keeps up his current level of form, but, for now, he’s still some way away from attracting a team like Tottenham.
