Ian Wright says Arsenal’s board simply have to sign £50m player this summer

It looks like it’s going to be another frustrating season for Arsenal.

Indeed, the Gunners look condemned for another second-place finish, despite the fact their nearest rivals in recent years, Manchester City, have fallen off a cliff.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, Liverpool are now favourites to win the league, and Alan Shearer even believes the title race is over at this point

Arsenal may already have to be thinking about their title chances next season as they look to end their 21-year drought.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Arsenal’s situation and their summer transfer business.

The pundit says that Arsenal need to bring in some fresh blood in the summer, naming Martin Zubimendi as a player Arsenal need to sign.

Arsenal need to sign Martin Zubimendi

Wright discussed Zubimendi and Arsenal.

Zubimendi has been strongly linked to Arsenal. However, Liverpool wanted Zubimendi last summer.

Wright really wants Arsenal to beat Liverpool to the £50m man, claiming that he’s worried about the club’s recent recruitment.

“I don’t know if that’s more pressure on him or it’s less pressure on him in respects of what he wants to do. Because let’s face it, he’s making it work with another man’s team, where he’s come in and coached them. And because we’re dealing with really experienced pros and very good young players coming through, I think the Gravenberch is just like, it’s just worked out so well for them when you’re talking about the start of the season with Zubimendi talk,” Wright said.

“There’s still room for Zubimendi as well, to be honest. I still think that acts as because McAllister can play deeper if he has to, but him further forward, I think get more out of him,’ Wright’s co-host said.

“I’m hoping that Zubimendi comes to us, to be honest,” Wright said.

Wright spoke about Zubimendi again later in the show.

“How much do they want us to get back to the mountain top and stay there? Because at the moment, I’m worried about the recruitment. I’m worried about recruitment,” Wright commented.

“So we need, I need to see a sporting director come in. And I need to hear some, like you mentioned Zubimendi. That better happen as far as I’m concerned.

“Listen, all I have to say, I’m leaving it at that. Like, I have faith, I have faith.”

Are Arsenal signing Martin Zubimendi?

Zubimendi to Arsenal has been one of the biggest transfer rumours of 2025 so far.

There’s certainly been groundwork done around this deal.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta has been messaging Martin Zubimendi about joining Arsenal for quite some time now, while Zubimendi has agreed personal terms with Arsenal according to some reports.

However, a deal isn’t done yet according to Fabrizio Romano, and in the last few weeks another complicating factor has entered the equation.

Real Madrid also want Zubimendi, and when the European champions come calling, it’s very hard to say no.

This is certainly an interesting situation to keep an eye on heading into the summer.
