Arsenal now want midfielder who Ian Wright raved about last season

Arsenal are reportedly ready to try and make a move for Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz, and he’s already been given the seal of approval from club legend, Ian Wright.

As reported on TBR earlier today, Luiz has emerged as a target for Arsenal. have claimed that Mikel Arteta is an admirer of the Brazilian as he seeks out a new holding midfielder.

Luiz has been in fine form for Villa over the course of the last two campaigns. Since arriving at the club from Man City for around £15m, Luiz has established himself as a consistently excellent performer. And based on comments from Gunners legend Ian Wright last season, it seems Luiz would be welcomed at Arsenal.

“Someone like Douglas Luiz, he is ready to be one of the best midfield players in the Premier League. He is so underrated. They blasted us (on Sunday). We had no chance. It was men against boys,” Wright after Villa had beaten the Gunners 3-0.

Arsenal are also thought to be keen on signing Luiz’s Villa teammate, Ollie Watkins. The same report from suggests the England striker has impressed Mikel Arteta.

TBR’s View: Douglas Luiz A Solid Fit For Arsenal

23-years-old, experience at Premier League and international level, and getting better each season, there is plenty of upside to Luiz if you are Arsenal.

The big problem will be convincing Villa to do business. They paid £15m for him and he’s got better. That means a huge fee is likely to be demanded. And with Villa hardly been strapped for cash, it’s not like they’re desperate for sales.

Arsenal moved for younger players in the summer. Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, and Nuno Tavares all arrived, as did Sambi Lokonga in midfield. Adding someone like Luiz, then, would make a lot of sense.
