Ian Wright explains why it would be ’embarrassing’ if Manchester City signed England star
that he thinks Manchester City re-signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund would be “embarrassing” for the Premier League leaders – having allowed Sancho to leave for Dortmund in 2017.
Sancho, 20, left City four years ago as he felt a move to Dortmund would benefit his chances of first-team football – and it has certainly paid off. He has since clocked up 130 appearances for the German club, becoming an England international.
The winger has 18 caps for England, having scored 46 goals and created 60 more in assists during his time in Germany. It is believed, though, that Sancho is expected to move this summer – with his price tag at £120million (, as per the ).
Wright was discussing Sancho on his latest podcast – which can be found on Spotify – that it would be embarrassing for City if Sancho returned to the club that he left less than four years ago, especially as his price tag currently stands at nine figures.
“He wouldn’t go back to City, would he?” . “It might be embarrassing for City, simply because they would have to pay so much money to get him back. Where would he play at City? It is a settled side. They don’t really need him.”

But as Wright says, do they really need him? Sancho is an exceptional player, breaking records with Dortmund – and even wearing the captain’s armband of late. He is a sensational talent, one that England will build their side around in years to come.
However, will City really swallow their pride to spend a club-record fee on – and even more so, do they need him? With Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling looking to play, Sancho is probably not needed.
Whether or not they would be willing to sign him, City probably don’t need him – even if he has had a hand in 29 goals this season, scoring 12 times and creating 17 more in his 37 games.
