Ian Wright explains where Aaron Ramsdale improves Arsenal, more so than Bernd Leno between the sticks

that Aaron Ramsdale improves Arsenal because his distribution is better than Bernd Leno’s.

The Gunners have bounced back from three straight defeats in the opening three Premier League games, to beat Norwich and Burnley – both 1-0.

Ramsdale, 23, has come into the starting line-up for the last two league games – after keeping a clean sheet against West Brom in the Carabao Cup.

He is yet to concede in three games, keeping three clean sheets. Ben White is starting to shine in front of him, with Gabriel also returning to the side.

Arsenal look defensively solid, a bit tenacious – a bit of nastiness. Wright, though, explains why Ramsdale improves Arsenal over Leno in goal.

“We’ve made little changes. Ramsdale, his distribution is much better. White and Gabriel are getting better,”

Wright on Ramsdale and Leno: Arsenal move now makes sense

Leno is a Germany international, a brilliant shot-stopper. It meant that Arsenal’s decision to spend £24million plus add-ons was criticised.

Why did they need to sign England goalkeeper Ramsdale when they already had a top goalkeeper in Leno? Ramsdale is just going to warm the bench?

Well, that’s how it started. But what it will have done, was either bring the best out of Leno – or the pressure would prove too much.

Ramsdale has come in and kept three clean sheets in three. Not only that, but his distribution is so much better – as Wright says.

Where there was criticism and scepticism surrounding the decision to sign Ramsdale – now, it makes sense. He is better than Leno.
