Ian Wright discusses reported Arsenal interest in signing Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham has completed a slightly surprising move to AS Roma from Chelsea this summer. Jose Mourinho has chosen to raid his old club and lure the English striker to Serie A football for £34million. Ian Wright has commented on Arsenal interest in Abraham, before a move to Roma.

Abraham, 23, leaves Chelsea after falling down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel. Even after the sale of Olivier Giroud, the England international is still some way off the starting line-up – with Romelu Lukaku coming in. Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are the club’s other options.

before his move to Roma that Abraham would prefer to join Arsenal. But of course, he has since replaced Edin Dzeko at Roma – with the Bosnian talisman moving to Inter Milan. Wright gave his verdict on the , after Abraham’s £34million () move.

“There was talk that he was waiting for Arsenal, but I don’t think Arsenal could afford to do the deal. For me, it will be brilliant for him. Jose Mourinho will look after him. Then, he will come back to the Premier League as a better player. it will be a great move for him,” Wright said.

Should Arsenal regret Roma signing Abraham – amid Wright verdict?

Without a doubt. Alexandre Lacazette is in the final year of his contract and his recent form suggests he is already past his peak. Abraham is yet to reach his best form but his potential suggests that can surpass the level of Lacazette. However, a move to Roma might be needed to get that out of him.

But Arsenal lack a striker that they can trust to bang in the goals. Lacazette is faltering and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, bizarrely, is used as a left winger. They are both likely to be unavailable against Chelsea this weekend. Instead, it means the likes of Folarin Balogun could play, again.
