Ian Wright and Peter Cech deliver four-word Instagram verdict as Arsenal agree Rob Holding deal

Rob Holding has put pen to paper on a new Arsenal contract that will keep him at The Emirates until the summer of 2024, with the option for a further year after that following an excellent start to 2020-21 – and both Ian Wright and Petr Cech have responded.

Back in the summer, 25-year-old Holding was facing the prospect of a summer exit after an injury-hit campaign had limited the former Bolton Wanderers centre-back to just 18 senior appearances throughout 2019-20. But Mikel Arteta kept faith.

Despite the permanent deal for Pablo Mari, the return of William Saliba and the addition of Gabriel – Holding has become crucial to Arsenal’s and is now first choice – with Mari and Gabriel fighting to partner him.

The likes of David Luiz, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis and Calum Chambers – when fit – are being forced to watch from the bench thanks to Holding’s form and he has now been rewarded. His new deal will last for three and a half years, and Arsenal posted on Instagram.

Holding has now started of Arsenal’s last 11 Premier League games, proving to be a crucial member of the side that have turned their form around in recent weeks. It is unclear how much Holding will now be paid, but he is likely to have received a rise.

Both Wright and Cech commented on Arsena’s Instagram post, with Gunners legend Wright responding to the news with a four-word verdict: “This is great news”. Cech, who is currently working at Chelsea as an advisor, also responded.
